NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Emergency management leaders across the Gulf Coast are working now to prepare for any potential storm as we approach the peak of hurricane season.
Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni says preparations in his parish are kicking into high gear.
Executive staff, the hurricane preparedness team and the emergency operations staff are holding meetings, making sure all the contracts are in place.
Yenni also wants to remind residents to get ready.
"If you are planning on staying for a storm event make sure you have water, make sure you have batteries, make sure you have your medication filled for the next few weeks in case something happens," Yenni said.
Yenni also advised making sure your generator is in good working order and everything you need to operate that generator is on hand.
"Whether it's one that runs your house or it's a portable generator make sure it is safely placed in an area that is ventilated so the fumes don't come into your house."
Yenni also reminded residents who do not plan on riding out a storm to make sure they have a place to go.
