ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA (WVUE) - St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's deputies need help identifying a woman they say fraudulently cashed checks worth $5,000 in two separate incidents.
Investigators say in August the woman met with a couple who answered a Craigslist ad about a home for rent in Arabi. The woman, who is in her early 20s, posed as the Arabi homeowner and accepted a total of $3,000 in checks from the couple to cover a deposit and two months of rent. Police say she doesn't own the home.
St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann said a similar incident happened to another couple in September. Police say a woman stole $2,000 after posing as a property agent for a home in Chalmette.
Detectives believe the two cases are likely connected.
If you can help police identify the woman, you're asked to call the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office at 504-271-2501 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
