COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - Covington police are looking for a man who pulled a gun and shot another man after a Monday night argument.

Monday night, just after 10:30 p.m., police were working an unrelated incident when they heard gunshots in the 300 block of West 29th Avenue.

When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital.

Initial reports indicate the victim got into an argument with the suspect, Markell "Phu" Powell, after Powell entered his home without knocking.

The suspect and the victim went out of the house and began fighting. Powell then fired two shots at the victim, striking him in the leg.

Powell fled the scene.

Police are searching for Powell and are seeking warrants for his arrest.

Powell is described as a black man with a thin build, approximately five-feet-ten-inches tall with black and blonde dreadlocks.

Powell was last seen wearing all black clothing and lives in the Covington area.

Police consider Powell armed and dangerous.

Anyone coming into contact with him should use extreme caution.

Anyone with information about Powell's whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
