NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The FBI said 45 people have been arrested in several Louisiana cities in connection Operation Cross Country X, an initiative aimed at combating underage human trafficking.

Among those arrested were six pimps, according to an FBI news release. In addition, officers rescued three juvenile victims who were used for prostitution.

The operation was a joint effort of the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and several international law-enforcement agencies. The results were announced Oct. 17 at the International Association of Chiefs of Police convention in San Diego.

In the United States, a total of 82 minors were rescued and 239 traffickers and their associates were arrested.

In Canada, as part of a corresponding effort called Northern Spotlight, authorities recovered 16 children, while in Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines, authorities recovered 25 children, including a 2-year-old girl.
