SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - State Police say one person was killed after a Camaro rear-ended a National Guard vehicle on I-10 in Slidell Friday evening.
The crash happened just after 8 p.m. on I-10 eastbound just after the Gause Blvd. exit.
According to investigators, 51-year-old Cheryl Billiot of Pensacola, Florida was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro eastbound on I-10 when she merged from the center lane into the left lane and crashed into the rear of a Louisiana National Guard Humvee that was part of a convoy. The force of the impact caused the Humvee to crash into the rear of the Humvee in front of it.
Billiot sustained fatal injures in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
Two National Guardsmen received moderate injuries in the crash and were transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital.
Although impairment is not a suspected cause of the crash, blood samples were taken from all the drivers involved in the crash and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
