SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies arrested a man after he led police on a chase in a stolen car. The incident occurred Monday just after 9:30 p.m. on Thompson Road near Gause Boulevard in Slidell.

Police say that a deputy was patrolling the area on Thompson Road when he saw a speeding, green Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing stripe, that matched the description of one wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in Jefferson Parish. The deputy gave chase as the Camaro sped up, going over 100 miles per hour. The driver of the Camaro, later identified as 36-year-old Stephen Alger of Slidell, drove through a red light at the intersection of Thompson Rd. and Gause Blvd. before driving the car in an open field.

According to police, the vehicle stopped after hitting several trees. Alger then fled on foot, but was taken into custody a short time later after being located by K-9 Cato.

Deputies learned that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Jefferson Parish. Alger was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for a dog bite. He was then brought to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where he was booked with failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to stop at a red light, speeding, illegal possession of stolen things, aggravated flight from an officer and resisting an officer.

Police say that additional charges from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office could come.
