Man accused of killing ex-wife in Hammond surrenders to sheriff's office

PONCHATOULA, LA (WVUE) - A man accused of killing his wife on the North Shore turned himself into authorities Tuesday night.

Jerry Williams, 53, of Ponchatoula, surrendered to Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's deputies around 9:30 p.m.

Williams was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and a protection order violation.

On Sunday morning, authorities responded to a call of a shooting in Hammond off Artie Rd. The caller stated there was a body in the neighbor's front yard.

When deputies arrived, they found Linda Williams lying in front of her residence. According to witness statements to police, Jerry Williams, the victim's ex-husband, was seen fleeing the scene in a red Mustang.

His wife was shot one time in the head. She was the mother of four. Family members said the murder was the culmination of years of abuse.
