Violent 24 hours with 5 shot and 5 armed robberies

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - "It's wrong. I mean, thing about it, it's a life you know," says Paul Landry.

It was just before 11 p.m. on Sunday when police say they found two men shot to death inside of a gray SUV in the 2000 block of Broad St.

"These guys are out there doing what they're doing. I mean, they need to think about it. You're taking somebody's life," says Landry.

It happened right in front of D&M Discount Supermarket on North Broad St., a place where Paul Landry often comes to shop.

"I do come here every day and I never knew anything to be going on like this. This is really crazy," says Landry.

Before police investigated the double homicide on Broad St., they'd already responded to two other shooting scenes.

A man was shot and killed inside of a hotel on the I-10 Service Rd. in New Orleans East at 9 a.m. on Sunday, and then just before 8 Sunday night, someone opened fire in the 1800 block of South Liberty. Crime tape still lingers at the scene where a 28-year-old woman and man were shot and rushed to the hospital.

In between the shootings, the NOPD says officers investigated five armed robberies.

The first happened in broad daylight at Magnolia and Washington Avenue.

Police say a woman was sitting in her vehicle when a man jumped into the passenger side, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded her property.

The victim handed it over and the gunman took off.

Then, at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, a woman was carjacked in the 2500 block of S. Carrollton Ave. From there, police investigated an armed robbery on the Westbank at Berkley and Boyd, and also in New Orleans East on Chef Menteur.

Then at 2:50 a.m. on Monday, someone hit a man over the head and robbed him in the 1000 block of Conti St.
