NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish sheriff's investigators said they have not yet been able to talk to a 16-year-old who was injured in a Marrero double shooting that claimed the life of a baby boy.
A Sheriff's Office spokesman said the teen is recovering from his injuries but is heavily sedated and unable to help detectives.
The incident occurred Saturday around 4:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Caddy Drive.
According to police, responding deputies found the 10-month-old boy and the teen with multiple gunshot wounds. The 10-month-old, identified as Xyahir Davis, was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The teen underwent surgery at University Medical Center and is listed in serious condition.
Investigators learned that victims were in the home at the time of the incident with Davis' father and three other men. Witnesses told investigators that someone opened the front door and began firing in the home.
Multiple shell casings were recovered near the front door and inside the home.
Detectives are working to identify the person(s) responsible as well as a motive.
