Family mourns baby boy slain in Marrero shooting

MARRERO, LA (WVUE) - Chermaine Davis has been through the unimaginable.

"This is my first and only grandson, my first and only," she said. "I never took this little baby's name out of my mouth, I just wanted him with me at all times as if he came out of my womb."

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says someone opened fire inside a Marrero home on Caddy Drive on Saturday, killing Davis's 10-month-old grandson and injuring a 16-year-old boy.

"Shoot a 10-month-old baby five times, it's just unbelievable. This baby's not going to even much be here for his first birthday, or Christmas to open up gifts. We have to open up a casket. He didn't deserve this, and I don't feel like no innocent child deserves this at all. It's just hard," Davis said.

While deputies continue to look for the gunman, Davis has a message for the person responsible.

"Y'all need to be behind bars, so this is something that y'all could think about. Every bullet that y'all put in him, I just want y'all to feel what he feel, what he felt, behind them bars, just thinking about how y'all just shot a 10-month-old baby down who never got a chance to walk," Davis said.

An account has been set up at Whitney Bank to help the family pay for funeral expenses. If you would like to help, you can donate to the Xy'Ahir Davis Memorial Fund.

And, if you have any information that can help deputies solve this case, call Crimestoppers at (504)822-1111.
