KENNER, LA (WVUE) - A former Kenner police officer was arrested and booked with stealing from people he had pulled over and arrested. Jan Michael Gregory was picked up at his Kenner home today.
Authorities say Officer Gregory stole money from five Hispanic males he had stopped and arrested for operating a vehicle without a driver's license.
When Officer Gregory was confronted about the investigation by the Internal Affairs Division, authorities say he immediately resigned from the Kenner Police Department. Detectives who searched his police unit found a personal gym bag they say had two wallets linked to two Hispanic males Officer Gregory had arrested.
During the investigation, all five victims reported a similar pattern of behavior by Officer Gregory. The original arrests happened between December 19, 2016 and February 5, 2017.
Officer Gregory had been with the Kenner Police Department since September 19, 2012.
He's booked with five counts of malfeasance in office, two counts of felony theft and three counts of misdemeanor theft.
Kenner Police and U.S. Marshal's Gulf Coast Regional Task Force worked together to make the arrest.
