(WVUE) - Cornerback Malcolm Butler is still a member of the New England Patriots, for how long is still unknown. Sources confirm to FOX 8 sports that Butler's visit has come to an end, and he has left town.
According to Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network, no deal has been made though both sides seem motivated to get one done. As a restricted free agent, the Saints and Butler would have to agree to an offer sheet. If the Patriots do not match, they would receive the 11th pick in the first round unless other compensation between New Orleans and New England was agreed to.
In that scenario, Butler would have to sign his tender with the Patriots. Then the Saints would trade for him with the understanding that a long-term contract would be agreed to. The deadline to sign his tender is April 21st.
