COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - A suspected impaired driver killed a man Thursday night as he walked across a Covington roadway.

It happened around 8:37 p.m. on Hwy. 190 at the intersection of E. 35th Ave.

Officers believe Joseph Foreman, 56, was attempting to cross Collins Blvd. As he entered the roadway, Nathaniel Magee, 33, from Marrero struck the alleged victim.

First responders airlifted Foreman to North Oaks Center in Hammond, where he was later pronounced dead.

Field sobriety tests of Magee led officers to suspect he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

Magee was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for first offense DWI and vehicular homicide.
