NOPD arrests man suspected of having 32 grams of heroin

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The NOPD arrested 27-year-old Reynard Variste on Saturday on gun and drug possession charges.

According to a police report, when officers pulled over Variste in the 10100 block of Curran Blvd., They found 32 grams of heroin, a scale, a firearm and more than $1,000 in cash in his possession at the time of the traffic stop.

Police say when the gun and drugs were discovered Variste tried to flee. He was quickly apprehended by police.

Variste also has prior felony convictions. He now faces charges of possession of a Schedule I CDS, felon in possession of a firearm and illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of narcotics.
