(WVUE) - The trade talks between the Saints and Patriots for cornerback Malcolm Butler could heat back up very soon. Butler has signed his restricted free agent tender with the Patriots. This was the last hurdle to clear to resume discussions between both teams.
The Saints hosted Butler last month but did not extend a qualifying offer. If they did and the Patriots refused to match the offer, the Saints would have had to send the 11th pick in the first round as compensation. This opens the door for terms of different deal.
Sean Payton has made no secret that he wanted to add another cornerback this offseason. Butler had four interceptions last season. His most memorable play came in the Super Bowl two seasons ago when he intercepted Russell Wilson at the goal line in the Patriots victory.
