New Orleans woman killed in wrong way crash

ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police say an early morning crash in St. Charles Parish has claimed the life of a New Orleans woman.

State Police say the crash happened just after 1 a.m. on LA 3127 near Mary Plantation Road.

According to crash scene investigators, 45-year-old Holly Arnold was driving her 2008 Honda Element eastbound in the westbound lanes of LA 3127 when she collided head-on with a 2014 Nissan Altima.

Arnold, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, 25-year-old Gabrielle Smith of Boutte, was critically injured in the crash. She was transported to University Medical Center for treatment.

It is currently unknown if impairment played a part in the crash. Toxicology tests were taken and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
