SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - After an announcement in September that Target would be adding $3 billion in improvements to 1,000 of its 1,800 stores, the company announced it is closing 12 underperforming stores.

One location is in Slidell.

A company spokeswoman said employees at 6112 Airport Rd. location were notified on Monday. The business will shut its doors on Feb. 3, 2018.

"It's not a decision we make lightly," said Kristy Welker, a Target spokeswoman told the Star Tribune. "We have a really rigorous process in place in evaluating the performance of a store in deciding when to close or relocate a store. We close a store after seeing several years of declining profitability."

The other stores Target is closing in February: Hastings, Minn.; Fergus Falls, Minn.; Harper Woods, Mich.: Hutchinson, Kan.; Benton Harbor, Mich.; Macon, Ga.; Lauderhill, Fla.; Matteson, Ill.; Romeoville, Ill.; Baltimore; and San Antonio.
