NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - LaToya Cantrell made history after she was elected the first female mayor of the City of New Orleans.

In her victory speech, Cantrell thanked her supporters, and said she looked forward to a, "New Orleans for everyone."

Cantrell also thanked Desiree Charbonnet for helping her make history by being her opponent in a historic only-female runoff.

Charbonnet told her supporters in her concession speech to support Cantrell. She also reassured those her voted for her that it was okay to be disappointed tonight, but urged them all to cheer on the Saints Sunday.

Charbonnet also extended her helping hand to Cantrell should she need anything during her term.
