NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans fire fighters, haz mat crews and railroad police are working to determine what led to a leaking train tanker car in Lakeview. The leak was reported at 9:57 a.m. Sunday on the Norfolk Railway line in the 400 block of Mounds Street.
According to an NOFD spokesperson, the one car on the west bound train was leaking soybean soap stock which is used in the making of soap. The product, which is considered non-hazardous, leaked on to the rails and in the grass near the tracks.
As of 12:15 p.m. crews were still on scene cleaning up the product and checking to see if repairs need to be made to the leaking car. NOFD crews will remain on scene until haz mat crews complete the clean up.
