Police: Man's burned body found in Bogalusa motel

BOGALUSA, LA (WVUE) - Deputies with the Louisiana State Fire Marshall's office have opened an investigation after a burned body was found in a Bogalusa motel room.

Authorities were notified Tuesday via a 911 call just before 4:30 p.m. about the discovery that was made at the Budget Inn the 500 block of Austin Street. They are currently working to identify the caller.

According to police, the body of the unidentified individual was found in the motel room's bathroom.

State Deputy Fire Marshal Brant Thompson confirmed that the body was that of an adult male and that the fire was confined to one unit, but he would not confirm that the victim was found in a bathroom. He said officials were dealing with an "unusual set of circumstances," but declined to elaborate.

Thompson said his office was working with the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office and Bogalusa Police to interview witnesses and determine whether or not there were any surveillance cameras in the area.

He said anyone with information is urged to contact authorities with any of the investigating agencies. He said anonymous tips are welcome and can be made via the Fire Marshal's website.

A preliminary autopsy report is expected within days, but a full report will take weeks, Thompson said.
