LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - The St. John Parish Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying a couple accused of putting a skimming device on the ATM of a LaPlace credit union.
The Louisiana Federal Credit Union is urging anyone who used its Belle Terre branch ATM to check their bank statements.
On Dec. 12 at about 3:30 p.m., the Sheriff's Office was notified about surveillance video that showed revealed a skimming device on the machine. Officers determined that it had been placed inside the ATM Dec. 1 at about 9:30 p.m. and then uninstalled by the suspects Dec. 3 just after 7 p.m.
"As soon as members started to call, we launched a full investigation and discovered that all members reporting unauthorized ATM transactions had used our drive-up ATM at least once," said FCU Vice President of Operations Jill Zerengue. "We were able to isolate the transaction times, we pulled video which revealed the skimmer being installed. We are taking immediate steps to remedy members' accounts."
Anyone with information about the people in the photographs is urged to call the SJSO tip line at 985-359-TIPS or the investigations division at 985-359-8764. You can also submit tips online.
