House fire in Metairie leaves a woman dead

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says an early morning fire in Metairie has left a woman dead.

Sheriff Joseph Lopinto says deputies responded to calls of a house fire in the 4300 block of Anthony Street around 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

When crews arrived at the scene, they discovered a home engulfed in flames.

Once firefighters extinguished the fire, they entered the home and discovered the body of a female. She was removed from the home and was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say the woman was home alone at the time of the fire.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office will determine the woman's cause of death.
