NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Fire Department helped Christmas come early for a handful of students from St. Michael's Special School.

The firefighters helped escort 25 students through the aisles of Wal-Mart as they picked out toys, games and even model fire trucks.

"We asked what he wanted, he come took a look at the trucks, didn't prod him at all, Dimanti went straight to the firetrucks and said that's what I wanted, I said that's awesome," Ed Holmes, with NOFD, said.

The firefighters helped the kids load up their baskets and check out as they watched their eyes fill with joy.

"Actually every year this is one of the highlights of our Christmas season to get out here and participate with the kids and see the joy they get out of it, it's just awesome," Holmes said.

After the shopping spree, the kids were treated to a Christmas party complete with cookies, punch, and a visit from Santa.
