Car crashes into building, leaving one dead
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Wednesday morning at 6:53 a.m., a call reporting a vehicle with possible people trapped lodged in the side of a building on St. Bernard Ave.
When firefighters arrived, they found an occupied vehicle that was trapped inside of a local business. It appeared that the driver lost control during operation, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to safely extricate the driver who was later transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
The passenger of the vehicle did not survive the crash. Firefighters are concerned that the building is no longer structurally sound as a result of the damage from the accident.
Members of code enforcement are on the scene currently working to determine the condition of the building, and if the removal of the car could possibly lead to a collapse of the structure. Members of the NOFD are currently searching the entire structure to ensure that there are no other people are trapped inside.
The scene has been turned over to the New Orleans Police Department. Members of the NOFD remain on the scene.
