Truck recovered from lake, search for body continues
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A search-and rescue operation is underway on Lake Pontchartrain Wednesday morning after officials believe a truck plunged into the water off the southbound lanes of the Causeway.
The truck was traveling in the southbound lane at mile marker 12 around 3:52 a.m. when the accident happened, according Causeway Police.
According to the Causeway Police, a red pickup truck was located in the lake nose down at mile marker 12.1.
Around 10:00 a.m. the pickup was recovered from the lake, but the search for the body of the driver continues.
The Coast Guard, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Department along with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department are assisting in the search.
Both sides of the Causeway Bridge were temporarily closed on Wednesday morning, but reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
