HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) - A 60-year-old Hammond man is dead after an early morning trailer fire.
Investigators were called to the 19000 block of Gorman Rd. in Hammond where fire crews responded to a report of a fire shortly after midnight involving a "Fifth Wheel" travel trailer.
After extinguishing the flames, firefighters located the body of a 60-year-old man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification to family members.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office, Hammond Fire Department, and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office continue to review the circumstances surrounding the fire.
The body was later released to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner after being examined by investigators. A preliminary autopsy report indicates that the victim died of smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.
Investigators said that a neighbor heard a sound resembling an explosion and found the trailer to be fully engulfed in flames.
Investigators established that the fire originated within the trailer, which had no working smoke alarms.
The cause is still under investigation.
