NOPD: Victim robbed during meetup to purchase cell phone

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a robbery in Gert Town Saturday afternoon.

Police say the robbery happened just after 1 p.m. near the intersection of Palm Street and Broadway Street.

According to the victim, he contacted a person on a website to buy a cell phone. When he arrived at the location where he was told to meet the seller, he was approached by an unknown suspect armed with a gun who demanded the victim's property.

Police say after a brief struggle between the victim and the suspect, the victim managed to get possession of the gun. The suspect then fled the scene in the victim's vehicle eastbound on Palm St. The victim's vehicle was later recovered by police.
