Coast Guard clears 100 gallons of oil from Mississippi River
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The Coast Guard responded to an oil spill Sunday on the Mississippi River.
The spill was near Mt. Airy at mile marker 145.
According to the Coast Guard, watch standers at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the National Response Center at about 12:30 a.m. that a potential maximum of 4200 gallons of fuel oil was released into the lower Mississippi River at the Pine Oaks Terminal.
Coast Guard incident management teams determined that the maximum amount of oil released was approximately 100 gallons and concluded their response later that afternoon.
ES&H, an oil spill response organization, assisted with the assessment.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
