ATV, dirt bike riders collide with JPSO deputies in multiple accidents in Metairie

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Three crashes, all involving Jefferson Parish Sheriff's vehicles, occurred Monday as police tried to stop all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes being driven recklessly in Metairie.

At about 7:50 p.m., a JPSO deputy saw about 15 ATVs and dirt bikes near the intersection of West Metairie Avenue and Elise. Deputies tried to stop the group, but the drivers fled, and deputies followed.

During the incident, three crashes occurred. Two happened at the intersection of Clearview Parkway and Airline Drive. In the first crash at the location, one of the dirt bike riders intentionally crashed his bike into a JPSO vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Office. Shortly after, an ATV crashed into another JPSO vehicle and a passing vehicle. The third crash, at the intersection of Clearview Parkway and Prairie, also resulted from a driver crashing into a JPSO vehicle.

Two of the suspect drivers were taken to the hospital for crash-related injuries. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Arrested are Carl Prather, 35, Nasir Wallace, 18, and Durrell Dixie, 31, all of Washington D.C. Charges will include but not be limited to aggravated criminal damage to property, hit-and-run driving, reckless operation and numerous traffic offenses
