Police: Son admits argument led to slaying of mother
METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office released new details in a case where a son is accused of killing his mother in Metairie.
Chad Mcavoy, 21, faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of his mom, 42-year-old Connie Mcavoy.
Just after 3:30 p.m., JPSO deputies were called to a home in the 4800 block of Loveland Street, where they found Connie Mcavoy in a hallway suffering from a single gunshot wound.
The initial call stated that the woman was believed to have committed suicide.
"Both the father and the son were on the scene, claimed it was a suicide at the time," said Sheriff Joe Lopinto.
Lopinto said as the investigation progressed, it became apparent that the victim had been murdered.
According to Lopinto, Connie was shot in the back with a long gun, making it impossible for her to commit suicide.
Lopinto said they interviewed both the father and Chad.
Lopinto said Chad and Connie had an argument and he admitted to grabbing his shotgun and shooting his mother in the back.
The father has been released. Lopinto said the father did not witness the shooting, and was not aware of it.
Chad remains in the custody of the Jefferson Parish Correction Center awaiting further charges.
Lopinto said the case has been turned over to the district attorney's office.
