METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - You'd like to think a driver with a school bus full of children obeys the traffic laws and drives as safely as possible. A viewer video appears to show that's not always the case.

The video, shot March 6 at 3:46 p.m., shows a light changing at the intersection of W. Esplanade Avenue and Houma Boulevard. Seconds later, a school bus, which doesn't appear to slow down, goes through the intersection, running the red light.

In the video, several children can be seen on the bus, which continues down W. Esplanade. The bus is marked "Jefferson Parish Schools."

In an online handbook for Jefferson Parish Public School employees prepared by the JPPSS Transportation Department is the following entry:

"Our first and highest priority is the safe delivery of students to and from school. The safety of every student depends on the judgment and skill of our transportation team."

FOX 8 has reached out to the school system and we are awaiting a response.
