Large apartment fire in Destrehan displaces families

DESTREHAN, LA (WVUE) - A large fire displaced several families in Destrehan as several crews worked to extinguish the flames.

The apartment complex in the 4900 block of Brandon Hall Dr. caught fire late Monday night. Fire departments in the area struck five alarms as the flames grew.

St. Charles Parish officials tell said the East Bank and Luling fire departments worked together to put the large fire out.

The Paradis Fire Department was also on standby in case the fire became bigger.

The water main to nearby residences was also broken and could not be repaired until the fire was completely out.

Officials said they were not sure when they would be able to restore water to these homes.

Since the fire was in an apartment complex, a lot of people appeared to have been displaced. Red Cross was on the scene helping those families find a place to stay.

Several people have driven to the area to take a look at this damage.

No one was injured because of this fire. Investigators are working to figure out how it started.
