Police investigating theft of bee boxes in Tangipahoa Parish

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Deputies are investigating the theft of bee boxes from properties in Tickfaw and Hammond.

According to police, the first theft was reported on Friday Apr. 6 from a residence on Highway 442 in Tickfaw. The victim said that five of their bee boxes, which contained 10 frames of bees each, were stolen. They added that they used the boxes to raise the honey bees and harvest honey. Colonies of bees and an unknown amount of honey were inside the boxes.

The second theft was reported on Monday from a residence on Bankston Road in Hammond. The victim in that theft told police that six bee boxes and one swarm box, which had five frames of bees inside were taken.

Police say that in both theft cases, the victims relied on the harvesting of the honey for income.

Once arrested, the suspects will face felony theft charges.
