5 kids arrested in connection with carjackings in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police arrested five juveniles in connection with a string of carjackings in several districts of the city.
Officers responded to a carjacking in the 200 block of Kenilworth Street on Thursday morning around 9 a.m.
Upon arrival, the initial officers learned that multiple subjects had pulled up to the victim in a Toyota Camry, later learned to have been taken in a carjacking from the Second District.
The suspects in the Camry exited the vehicle and approached the victim demanding their vehicle. The victim complied, at which time the subjects fled in the victim's vehicle followed by the Camry.
The Third District officers and Orleans Levee District Officers quickly set up a perimeter and began aggressively searching for these vehicles.
Through the assistance of the departments' license plate readers, the officers learned that the subjects had fled toward the Fifth District.
Third District Task Force Officers, detectives and patrol officers moved their search area where they located the Camry occupied by five suspects near the Desire Housing Development.
After a brief chase, which included the response of Fifth District officers, all five suspects were arrested.
All five subjects have been charged with the carjacking from the 200 block of Kenilworth Street, charged with an attempted carjacking from 5700 block of Chatham, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Detectives from all NOPD districts are involved in following up on leads that may lead to additional charges.
