NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department has obtained a warrant for a DNA swab for evidence in a vehicle burglary case.
According to NOPD, they need a DNA swab from Brandon Lee Sims.
On October 14, 2017, NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of a vehicle burglary in the 5000 block of Woodland Drive.
When officers arrived, they learned that the victim had parked and locked his vehicle on October 13 at about 10:30 p.m. at the location.
According to the report, when he returned to his vehicle on October 14 at about 11 a.m., he saw his vehicle's passenger side door slightly open.
The victim said he opened the door and discovered that personal items had been removed from the vehicle, including a handgun.
NOPD said Sims was named as a possible suspect during the investigation.
Evidence discovered during the investigation led a magistrate court judge to order a search warrant for police to obtain a swab of DNA evidence from Sims for comparison testing, according to NOPD.
