Pedestrian struck, killed by delivery truck on I-10 East near Irish Bayou Exit

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A traffic fatality is under investigation where an unidentified adult male was struck and killed on I-10.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the incident happened shortly after 5 a.m. Friday on I-10 East near the Irish Bayou exit.

Officials said for unknown reasons the pedestrian was walking eastbound I-10 where he walked near the center travel lane and was struck by an 18-wheeler delivery truck.

The male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the incident, all lanes of I-10 East at Michoud were shut down for nearly three hours and commuters were forced to find an alternate.

All lanes were reopened since 8 a.m.

No charges have been filed on the driver and impairment is not suspected.
