Former North Shore District Attorney Water Reed and his son, Steven, attempted to get their corruption convictions overturned Tuesday.

According to | The Times-Picayune, Walter Reed's attorney told the appeals court panel that "federal prosecutors took state campaign laws and made a criminal case out of it."

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan Ginsberg argued the pair committed a "classic federal crime," and that "Walter Reed and Steven Reed took money that didn't belong to them."

Last April, a judge sentenced Walter Reed to 48 months in prison.

Steven was convicted of one count of conspiracy wire fraud and money laundering, but was not sentenced to serve prison time.
