Sheriff: 1 dead, 1 missing in Plaquemines Parish boating accident

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office members are investigating a fatal boat accident that happened at Southwest Pass near Port Eads on Wednesday.

The sheriff's office received the call about the accident around 8:50 a.m.

When deputies arrived, the boat had already sunk. The boat is believed to have had three men aboard. One drowned, one man - reportedly from Baton Rouge - is missing, and one man was found alive.

A search is underway for the missing boater. The accident is still under investigation.

Once they finish their investigation and it is confirmed that it is a boating accident, the investigation will be turned over to the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
