HARVEY, LA (WVUE) - A Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputy was shot in Harvey by a 16-year-old over the weekend, according to Public Information Officer Glen Boyd.
JPSO issued an alert about the shooting at 3:30 a.m., but it was not clear exactly when the shooting occurred.
The officer was shot in the leg and taken to an area hospital. The injuries sustained in this incident is described by Jefferson Parish authorities as "non-life-threatening."
The shooting happened at Manhattan Blvd and Harvey Blvd where the officer was engaged in a vehicle pursuit, that ended in a traffic stop. It is unclear if the suspected shooter was the driver of the vehicle.
The 16-year-old had no prior criminal history, and was charged with attempted 1st degree murder, possession of a firearm, and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to Boyd.
Boyd said a second suspect, an 18-year-old, was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
