NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Two cousins joined dozens of women to hoist the walls on their new homes Wednesday morning.

It's part of the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity's second annual Women Build event, which features more than 100 women volunteers helping to build two homes.

Kina Henry and Brittani Franks, who are cousins, are helping to build their homes side-by-side in the lower ninth ward after contributing more than 350 hours each of sweat equity and volunteer work to the organization.

The event features female volunteers from all walks of life, who come to help build the homes over a period of 12 days in the month of May.

The cousins said they've looked forward to this day for months now and are excited to become homeowners, something they think will help improve quality of life in their community.

The group is still looking for volunteers to help with the build as well as projects throughout the year.
