NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A new study that will be released Thursday will give a better idea of how many people struggle to make ends meet.

Research shows 40 percent of Americans are one financial hardship away from slipping into poverty.

In New Orleans and surrounding parishes, that number is even higher.

The United Way classifies those people as living in the ALICE Class' which stands for asset-limited, income constrained, employed.

When that population is added to how many people live below the poverty line in Orleans Parish, a total of 53 percent of households struggle to make ends meet.
