NOPD: Man steals money off woman’s shirt, victim fights to get it back

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department says a woman fought a man to get back money stolen from her on her birthday.

Police say the incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Erato Street and South Robertson Street.

According to the victim, a man, later identified as 57-year-old Calvin Rankin, grabbed money that was pinned on her shirt and ran inside. When Rankin returned outside he and the victim got into a physical altercation.

Police say when they arrived at the scene, the victim pointed out Rankin. Officers found the victim's torn money inside of Rankin's wallet and he confessed to taking the money.

Rankin was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Detention Center on one count of simple robbery and one count of simple battery.
