CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) - Officials with the Chalmette National Cemetery has announced that the Memorial Day ceremony that was scheduled for Sunday has been canceled.
Due to the threat of heavy rains and possible flooding, the cemetery is announcing adjustments to this weekend's plans for the Memorial Day holiday.
In addition to the cancellation of tomorrow's ceremony, the volunteer project to pick up the flags placed in the cemetery on Tuesday has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
The gates, restrooms and visitor center at Chalmette Battlefield will close at noon on Saturday and will remain closed until Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Visitors will still be allowed to visit the cemetery from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. The cemetery will only close if heavy rains and flooding causes a threat to visitors.
Officials say they will continue to post updates on their Facebook page if anything changes.
