NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Causeway Bridge drivers will notice in July the beginning of work to upgrade the bridge.
According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, test pilings will be driven alongside the bridge. Causeway operators say that's the first step in a $50 million project to add shoulders on both sides. Shoulders will help bridge workers manage traffic, following breakdowns and crashes.
Actual construction of the shoulders should be in October or November. Bridge workers expect construction will last about 15 months.
