(WVUE) - A wildfire has been reported in the Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. Local U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fire crews, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and Slidell Fire District 1 began suppression of the wildfire Friday afternoon.
The fire is located in an area of timber south of Slidell west of U.S. Highway 11 and is estimated to be approximately three acres. Residents in Lake Shore Village subdivision can expect to see and smell smoke for the next few days.
The cause of the wildfire is unknown and will be assessed once the fire has been contained. The Fish and Wildlife Service said high temperatures and a lack of rainfall have raised fire danger in the region.
