Firefighters working to extinguish barge fire near Huey P. Long bridge

JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Fire Department is currently on the scene of a barge fire on the Mississippi River.
Officials say the fire began about 11:30 a.m. Sunday one mile east of the Huey P. Long Bridge.
Firefighters initially had trouble getting to the barge but are now working from tugboats to extinguish the fire.
There are no reports of anyone missing or anyone injured at this time.
According to the United States Coast Guard, the docked barge is carrying scrap cars and there are no reports of pollution at this time.
