JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A barge on the Mississippi River that caught fire Sunday is reportedly sinking, according to the United States Coast Guard. Crews worked Sunday to extinguish the burning barge, which is located at mile marker 105 on the Mississippi River, near the Huey P. Long Bridge in Jefferson Parish.

According to a Coast Guard spokesperson, water used to help fight the fire accumulated on board, causing the barge to sink. The barge was loaded with scrap cars.

Crews are on scene investigating and evaluating the chances of pollution.

No injuries have been reported.
