SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - A fire at a Slidell home injured a firefighter Sunday, according to the St. Tammany Fire District #1.
Firefighters were dispatched to West Howze Beach Rd, near Spartan Drive to a 12,000 square foot multi-story residence fully involved.
The fire was under control in under fifty minutes, according to a report issued by the fire department.
Just after 9:00 pm, St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 received multiple 911 phone calls from passerby's.
Firefighters arrived on scene and began a defensive attack on the fully involved structure.
The residence has been vacant for some time and there was no power going to the residence.
The fire also spread to the densely wooded area surrounding the home, so firefighters had to extinguish the woods fire while fighting the structure fire.
Firefighters called the State for assistance with a plow to create a plow line around the woods fire, according to the report.
The home is considered a total loss, according to the fire department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. One firefighter sustained minor injuries as a result of the fire and was treated and released at an area hospital.
