EXCLUSIVE: Former New Orleans deacon responds to molestation accusations
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - He stood trial in 1978 and was acquitted after two alleged victims, young boys, testified against him.
Now, former church Deacon George Brignac is center stage once again after the Archdiocese of New Orleans paid out a $500,000 settlement.
The settlement arose from a series of rapes, outlined to FOX 8 by a victim who says he was abused by Brignac while serving as an altar boy at Holy Rosary Church. Brignac was in charge of the altar boys there.
For the first time on Thursday, he responded to the accusations.
Rob Masson: Do you make any apologies to the boys who claimed you abused them, sir?
Brignac: I've always been apologetic to anything I did wrong, if I did anything wrong. All my teaching career, I've loved and taken care of my students and my family, and I've lost all of them.
Brignac said much more about the accusations against him, as alleged victims are now starting to come forward with allegations suppressed.
FOX 8 will continue to update this story as it develops.
