NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A longtime New Orleans Saints fan, whose claim to fame was catching running back Mark Ingram following a touchdown at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, has died, according to the team.

Todd Fruge passed away Thursday after a fight with colon cancer that lasted more than three years. He was 48.

In October, one of Fruge's friends asked if he would like to go to Green Bay to watch the Saints play the Packers. He was sitting in the front row of the endzone.

When Ingram scored a touchdown, he leapt into the stands, landing in the arms of Fruge and his friend.

Ingram later learned about Fruge's condition and invited him and his family to a Saints practice.

Fruge was a volunteer assistant football coach at St. Michael the Archangel in Baton Rouge.

He is survived by his wife and three children.
